As part of George Mason's College of Engineering and Computing, the Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research (SEOR) prepares students to design, analyze, and improve the large-scale systems that support modern society.

Located in the Washington, D.C. region, SEOR has strong connections with federal agencies, technology companies, and research institutions. The department promotes and sustains a vibrant research environment that supports interdisciplinary collaboration and provides opportunities for faculty and students to pursue impactful research. Faculty expertise spans optimization, modeling and simulation, decision analytics, logistics, and systems design, enabling the department to contribute to advances in both theory and real-world applications.

SEOR is committed to delivering high-quality education through innovative curricula, experiential learning opportunities, and close engagement between students and faculty. Today, the department offers BS and MS degrees in Systems Engineering, Operations Research, and Data Analytics, as well as a PhD in Systems Engineering and Operations Research. These programs equip students with the analytical and engineering skills needed to address complex challenges in areas such as infrastructure, transportation, cybersecurity, defense, and decision systems.
