Qualified undergraduate students may apply for a five-year accelerated BS/MS program leading to a Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline and an MSSE/MSOR/MSDAEN degree. The accelerated BS/MS program can be completed in a minimum of 141 credit hours with certain concentrations in the graduate program. The following conditions apply:
- Applicants must be Mason undergraduate students majoring in CEC.
- Applicants must have an overall GPA of at least 3.30 and must have completed all their MATH and PHYS requirements.
- Students may apply for the accelerated BS/MS program after the semester in which they will have completed 60 or more credit hours applicable to their degree. They can take MS level courses after the semester in which they will have completed 75 or more credit hours applicable to their degree.
- Additionally, students can take graduate reserve credits after completing 90 credits or more but these courses do not count toward the BSSE degree. The criteria for taking graduate reserve credit must be met.
Students must complete all requirements for the BS degree in their chosen major. Students in the accelerated BS/MS program may apply to have the BS degree from the appropriate CEC program conferred in the semester during which they expect to complete their BS requirements. The MS degree is granted upon completion of all requirements for the master’s degree.
Up to four courses (twelve credit hours) of master’s level courses may be applied to both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. These four courses may be chosen from the list of graduate courses in the following table. For BSSE majors, these graduate courses replace the corresponding undergraduate courses listed in the table. The undergraduate version of these courses may not be applied toward the MSSE degree.

1These courses apply only to certain concentrations in the graduate program.
Systems engineering majors in the accelerated BS/MS program may take a technical elective in lieu of SYST 505 as part of the MSSE program. The technical elective must be approved by the student’s advisor and the SEOR Chair.
For the accelerated degrees in BSSE / MSSE and BSSE / MSOR all courses in the table above are available for double count. However, for the BSSE/ MSDAEN (with the predictive analytics or financial engineering concentration) program, only OR 541, OR 542, SYST 573, SYST 538, SYST, 568, and SYST 588 from the previous table can double count. OR 541 replaces OR 531 in the BSSE/MSDAEN program.

Accelerated Masters Programs
Operations Research, Accelerated MS
Highly-qualified undergraduates may be admitted to the bachelor's/accelerated master's program and obtain a Systems Engineering, BS and an Operations Research, MS in an accelerated time-frame after satisfactory completion of a minimum of 141 credits.
Admitted students are able to use up to 12 graduate credits in partial satisfaction of requirements for the undergraduate degree. Upon completion and conferral of the bachelor's degree and with satisfactory performance (grade of 'B' or better) in each of the graduate courses, students are given advanced standing in the master's program.
See AP.6.7 Bachelor's/Accelerated Master's Degrees for policies related to this program.
Students in an accelerated degree program must fulfill all university requirements for the master's degree. For policies governing all graduate degrees, see AP.6 Graduate Policies.
