A team of George Mason students won two contests for their work on researching and proposing a new Chesapeake Bay crossing.

George Mason Systems Engineering and Operations Research students took first place in the Systems and Analytics Track of the Sage Memorial Design Competition and first place in the STEM Track of the Patriot Pitch Competition with their plan to deliver supplies to a hard-to-reach island in the Chesapeake Bay.

A new minor in sustainable systems engineering will be on offered at George Mason University, part of a collaboration between the College of Engineering and Computing, the College of Science, and the Institute for a Sustainable Earth

Mason CEC SEOR student Darius Jack is often the youngest person landing a plane at one of Virginia’s 65 airports. Having gotten his pilot’s license as a teenager, Darius combines his interests in aviation and engineering when he’s in the cockpit.

Professor Andrew Loerch will retire this June after 22 years at the College of Engineering and Computing.
